YVA Rally 2008 at Newby Hall, Ripon,
7th and 8th June 2008
This year’s rally at Newby Hall is already attracting a lot of interest from exhibitors and potential visitors alike.
Last years rally was a great success and the committee are trying hard to improve and build on last year’s event.
Many of the exhibitors in the Ford and Fordson area have expressed an interest in returning this year and the Ford and Fordson Association will again have a presence at the rally although in not as big a way.
The committee have proposed to feature Allis Chalmers tractors, and the newly formed Allis Chalmers club are supporting us in this, we would urge any members who have Allis Chalmers equipment to bring it along to this rally and help to put on a really good display. Allis Chalmers tractors were built in the UK for a time following WW2 until the last ED40s were produced in the late 1960s, there is also some Allis Chalmers equipment out there as well. Allis Chalmers also includes the Rumely line of tractors and Brian Chester will be taking along his 1919 model H tractor. It is hoped that one or two more may attend.
On the engine front we are featuring the Amanco line of engines, these early engines are very popular with collectors and come in many shapes and sizes with both air cooled and water cooled examples being made, ranging in size from the
1 3/4hp chore boy to the 2 ¼ hp hired hand and hired man and up to the 3,6,8 &12hp mule team range of engines. These engines were built in Iowa USA from 1909 to1929 and so many are getting to nearly 100 years old.
We have been approached by Stuart Gibbard from The Old Tractor magazine who is interested in making the Newby Hall rally Old Tractor’s featured rally of the year, which is sure to widen the appeal to many tractor owners who own and exhibit older model tractors many of which are seldom seen at rallies these days, as diesel tractors are easier to start and run than the often troublesome petrol TVO engine predecessor!
Many of the other tractor clubs are proposing to put on displays of their members tractors, the Ferguson Club, for one, put on a display last year and is actively promoting the show to their members.
It is proposed to have a bigger area featuring working exhibits than last year when the stone crushing, wood sawing, straw matting and other working exhibits were a great attraction to both the public and exhibitors alike, it is hoped to have at least one threshing machine set up as well as log sawing etc. One or two of the larger stationary engines that are driving equipment may also be set up in this area.
We hope that this year’s rally is blessed with the same weather as last year and that it will become a rally that is held in high regard by many.
