Report on The Yorkshire Vintage Association Rally
Held at Newby Hall, Ripon on 9th/10th June 2007
We were in for a superb weekend at Newby Hall, all parties concerned put a lot of effort into preparing the layout of the site on the Friday before the rally.
The sun shone and everyone was happy.
The Ford and Fordson Association put on a superb display of Ford tractors albeit they were very squashed up they only used about half the area allocated to them.
We tried a different way of displaying the tractors at Newby as we were in a parkland setting with a lot of mature trees in the rally field we decided to separate out the different makes of tractors and display them round the trees. This worked really well and we received many favourable comments about this.
We had many rare and different tractors an international Mogul and a Titan 15-30 a Parrett and a Rumely to name a few of the really old tractors, there were three unrestored Case Model C tractors all in very good order. Phillip Snowden brought along a wagonload of continental tractors which included a Hurliman and a BDW tractor.
There was a working area which included stone crushing and wood sawing and a lot of the stationary engines which put on a fine display at the top end of the field were driving something.
We were hoping to put on a good show and judging by the comments such as “its the best tractor rally that I’ve been to in years” “this place is really superb” and “ this rally is better than Thoresby used to be” that echoed round the event over the weekend the feeling was that we had succeeded. There are one or two issues that we must attend to for next years rally but it has given us a good start to build on for next year, and the folks at Newby Hall are only too pleased to welcome us back.
The date for the rally in 2008 is 6th & 7th June 2009.
