Duncombe Park Steam Rally 7th & 8th July 2007
This was the 17th time this rally has been staged. There were those who wondered if indeed the rally would go ahead at all due to the very wet weather we have had recently. However the rally did take place.

The Friday saw exhibitors steadily arriving with their caravans and exhibits. Virtually everyone had to be towed into the site. Mud flew in many directions and several men did excellent jobs with the towrope.

More rain fell on Friday evening but it was a dry night and the sun shone on the Saturday morning. There were not quite as many exhibits as in previous years, but more kept arriving up until late Sunday morning.

The movements of the steamers were restricted, but they were however in full steam on the concrete roadways around the site. What splendid exhibits they are!

The layout of the rally was arranged slightly differently this year – maybe a good thing as some rallies are in danger of becoming ‘samey’.

A steady procession of steamers, tractors and trailers made their way into Helmsley on Saturday evening and many portions of fish and chips and pints of beer were consumed.

Sunday morning saw the sun out again. They was an unfortunate very heavy shower just after lunch, which made a few exhibitors, pack up and go home slightly earlier.

All in all a good rally was had and congratulations to the organisers for continuing with the rally in such difficult conditions. Lets look forward to 2008 and hope the weather will be kinder to us all.
